Aim and content
This is a generic course. This means that the course is reserved for PhD students at the Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences at UCPH. Anyone can apply for the course, but if you are not a PhD student at the Graduate School, you will be placed on the waiting list until enrollment deadline. After the enrolment deadline, available seats will be allocated to the waiting list.
The course is free of charge for PhD students at Danish universities (except Copenhagen Business School), and for PhD students at graduate schools in the other Nordic countries. All other participants must pay the course fee.
Researchers read many scientific reports of different types during their training. Every researcher can improve their reading skills and learn to differentiate between well-done and dubious research reports, using well-established tools developed within the field of clinical epidemiology. A systematic and critical look at study design, population, and intervention shows whether the study results can be used as a basis for further research or in clinical decisions. Similar courses have been offered for many years at the Nordic level in Norway and Finland and at the regional level in Denmark.
Form: Case-based critical appraisal of seven different types of study designs. The first four titles are fixed, while students registered for the entire course will choose the latter four according to their own interests. Students are welcome to bring their own current research questions to be used as teaching cases. The materials for each session will be available through Absalon two weeks ahead of the session. For now, an example of a typical case may be found at the Department of General Practice website: http://pubhealth.ku.dk/am/.
Note: All applicants are asked to submit invoice details in case of no-show, late cancellation or obligation to pay the course fee (typically non-PhD students). If you are a PhD student, your participation in the course must be in agreement with your principal supervisor.
